Rims and spokes XR650R
« on: April 17, 2019, 12:45:32 PM »
Are you still offering wheel services? Need rims and spokes applied to my stock hubs. Tusk or Dirtstar? If Tusk is up to the task, then Iíd prefer to save some coin over the Dirtstar. Also, can you supply single Excel spokes? I need 3 rear on the drive side, plus spares ...I keep breaking them. Many thanks! :headrock:

Generally when you start breaking spokes it is time to replace them all...  If not they keep breaking including the new ones.  Its a domino effect that doesn't stop until the wheels are relaced with a fresh set.  It can also be an indicator that the spoke holes in the hubs are wallowed out allowing too much movement that breaks the spokes.

Yes we can provide Black or Silver...  Tusk $79.95 or Dirtstar $124.95.  We dont sell single spokes though.

Ya yup...I know the domino effect. The guy who built this set was a numbnut...Iíve been fixing his crap work ever since I got them back from him. The heads at the hub keep breaking off.
So, do you still offer wheel building? Iíd like to send in my hubs, and have new impact rims and spokes installed.

Sure...  Black or Silver Rims ?  Black or Silver Spokes ?

Send hubs to:

Race Day Motosports
Attn: Dave Moore
9383 Buena Vista St
Apple Valley CA 92308

Dave has been building wheels for almost 50 years.  I'll make sure he gives the hubs a good viewing before any assembly.

Black rims, silver spokes.

I just figured out the prior builder used the wrong spoke kit on my excel rim. He used the kit for the wider rim (2.5Ē), not the 2.15Ē rim. I need kit # XS9-11187. Excel rim and stock hub are still good, so Iíd like to send you this wheel to have your guy lace it with that excel spoke kit in addition to building the other set.

I pulled my spare wheels apart, and the front hub has cracks at many spoke holes. Canít use it. Cancel the front and rear impact rims and spokes. Just need a price on the excel spoke kit and relacing my excel rim to the stock hub. Thanks

Ouch...  That blows for you.

Does it have to be Excel ?  Normally for Stainless on Spline nipples I'd use Dubya's Bulldog Brand Spokes. Either way its about $95 per wheel for spokes and $55 labor.  $15 to $20 return shipping.

Didnít realize I had options. Iíll try your recommendation and try the Dubya spokes. Iíll pull the wheel apart ASAP, and ship the rim and hub to Daveís address. Can he slap new bearings and seals in it too?

Do you rep Warp9 wheels too? Considering their Cush drive hub/elite rim combo (silver spokes and nipples), since this bike sees a lot of pavement and heavy loads as well as long pounding rides in the dez and Baja. Donít really care for their rotors and sprockets though...

You have a brand preference on bearings ?

Yes...  Warp Price on such a set is $918...  add $25 for shipping...  deduct $60 if no rotors or sprocket.  Hubs take 07-16 year CRF450x/R rotors and sprocket.

My price for same $799...  add $25 for shipping...  deduct $51 if no rotors or sprocket.  Hubs take 07-16 year CRF450X/R rotors and sprocket.

So with sprocket removed but including rotors wheel price is $779...  add $25 shipping = $799 Total delivered.

Lead time quoted by Warp9 at 4 weeks.

Send check to:

Yucca Valley CA 92286

On my 04 CRF 450 R after doing the Malcom Smith run I had all of my rear spokes replaced with larger ones. No problems after that.
